Chad Peters, Unicoi Outfitters Guide

Chad Peters

Chad has only been guiding for us for two years, but in that time has developed quite a loyal following of clients. Chad's main haunts are around Blue Ridge, particularly the Toccoa River and Noontootla Creek Farms.

Here are Chad's requirements for an ideal day on the water: "First and foremost, catching fish. I truly enjoy guiding because each day brings a new client or a new set of conditions to figure out. You get a full range of experience levels and abilities to fish, from the people that have never even seen a fly rod to people that have been using one longer than I have been alive. Some days you start from scratch others you pretty much just net fish. What I enjoy the most is taking the clients' abilities and applying them to the waters that I am familiar with, in order for them to have the most success. Sometimes that requires thinking outside of the box, that's why I have as much fun guiding as I do with a rod in my hand. As much as I love to get people on fish, it is nice to meet new people, learn what they are all about and even make some great friends along the way."

"Eat, Sleep, Fish and tie flies. Since I was about nine I have been hooked on fishing. I have fished all over central Florida bass fishing, Tampa Bay and Boca Grande inshore for reds, snook and trout, and North Georgia and East Tennessee for trout. I enjoy a number of other things, I'm just not usually willing to give up fishing time to do them."

Chad is also a great fly tier, and many of the patterns you see in our Blue Ridge shop were supplied by Chad; he will also custom tie flies as well. Chad spends a good bit of his off-water time working retail at the Blue Ridge shop, so odds are pretty good his voice may be the one that answers the phone when you call the Blue Ridge shop.

"As fun as it is to see a fish take a dry, I am a nymph fisherman at heart. I think that it is the element of the unknown that intrigues me. I like to look at a piece of water and try to see in my head what that water looks like under the surface. Try to figure the where the fish may be, and how to get my fly in front of that fish. I know it is not traditional, but if the fish are not rising then you can bet there will be some weight on my line."
