Julian Byrd
Julian has been guiding for the past ten-plus years. Around here he fishes on the Chattahoochee, Toccoa, Soque, Chattooga, Tuckaseegee, Santeetlah, and Nantahala Rivers, as well as Dukes, Noontootla, and Mountaintown Creeks. Out west, he's got experience on the Green, Grays, Snake, and Hoback Rivers, along with Fish, Big Sandy, Jim, Clear, and Rock Creeks, and the Roaring Fork in Wyoming.
Julian specializes in floating tailwaters for trout - especially midge fishing, but is also comfortable and capable when it comes to wade trips.
Byrd's ideal day: "I have a great fondness for floating rivers, especially tail-waters, in my diftboat casting to rising fish. The first moment after pushing away from the bank and pointing the boat downstream, all worldly troubles and worries just fade away. The view from my diftboat office beats everything."
"I have been fishing my entire life. My father once said that I could work his old Mitchell 308 Spinning reel before I could speak in complete sentences. Born in Great Falls Montana, trout fishing is as second nature as breathing for me. I’m not a gear hound and I can’t tell you the actual names of most of the flies in my fly box, I just love to fish. I don’t have to catch fish to enjoy fishing."
